Neurology Department of the University Hospital Mannheim
Welcome to the internet presentation of the Department of Neurology (Director: Prof. Dr. Michael Hennerici), at the University Hospital Mannheim.
Our department has over 58 beds and has since 2008 one of the largest stroke wards in Germany (stroke competence centre) with a total of 29 beds. Neurologically acute stroke patients are looked after on the intermediate conservative acute ward closely working together with the colleagues of the Medical Cardiology Department. Including in patients and our University Policlinic, the outpatients department we are treating patients with a wide spectrum of all neurological diseases. We focus on the area of cerebrovascular diseases (stroke competence centre), stroke illnesses (epilepsy centre), neurodegenerative and neuroimmunological diseases (multiple sclerosis, certified muscle centre).
As a part of the Medical Faculty of Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg we are a University Hospital with a high claim to research and teaching. Hereto counts our international scientific renommée in the area of stroke with many experimental and clinical research groups. We are also established in other areas of neuroscience such as dementia research, movement and gait disorders, neuromuscular diseases and neurological imaging. Current research projects are supported by the EU, the DFG, the BMBF and other sponsors. We offer the students of our faculty a unique curriculum out of a nosologic orientated curriculum, a case-related, symptom orientated seminar series and practice covered instruction at the bedside.
