Department of Neurology
The Department of Neurology at the University Hospital Mannheim is part of the Faculty for Clinical Medicine Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg. The Department of Neurology is dedicated in particular to cerebrovascular diseases. For modern treatment of acute stroke patients we opened the first Stroke Unit in south-western Germany in April 1998. Our department has 3 inpatient wards with 62 beds; five beds on the Stroke Unit and four beds on an intermediate care unit.

Beyond cerebrovascular diseases we focus especially on epilepsia, movement and gait disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, e.g., Parkinsonism and dementia, and neuroimmunological disorders, e.g., multiple sclerosis, GBS and CIPD.
The outpatient department, situated near the labs for neurosonology and neurophysiology, contains specialised units for neurovascular diseases, epilepsy, movement disorders and neuroimmunological diseases.

- Neurovascular diseases, Patients with symptomatic or asymptomatic cerebrovascular disases.
- Epilepsy, Patients with seizures.
